Signs of Innovation and Cooperation

VBIT member, Colleen Carey was visiting Tofino, BC last April and noticed their pedestrian crossings had whales painted into the design. She thought this could be a simple, effective & inexpensive way to incorporate Vulcan’s brand of Star Trek & Technology. Incorporating the Star Trek emblem on our cross walks would increase curb appeal while enhancing our famous star trek connection.

One phone call to Kim Fath, the Town of Vulcan’s CAO and a quick conversation with Town Foreman, Stew Birch, and the wheels were put into motion to make it happen. With the support of the Town Council, emblem approval from the Vulcan and District Tourism Society, and some custom plywood stencils, the Star Trek emblem was painted on the downtown crosswalks. At the same time, a new test lamp post was erected featuring the Starship Enterprise.

Thanks to all involved for making this fun addition to the downtown, which has been filmed and commented on by tourists and locals citizens A great example of innovation and cooperation.
